How to Create a Product Description from an Image with AI
Image Description Generator
Published 10/13/2025 · Updated 7/16/2026
Product images contain useful visual details, but an AI tool cannot know every fact about an item. It may recognize color, shape, visible materials, style, packaging, and context while missing specifications that are not visible.
This guide explains how to use an image-description tool to prepare a product-copy draft and how to review it before publication.
1. Start with a Clear Product Image
Use an image with good lighting, a visible subject, and a background that does not hide important details. Only upload images that you own or have permission to process.
2. Choose a Product or Marketing Output
Select an output designed for product copy or marketing text. Add guidance about the target audience, tone, product category, or platform when that information is known.
Do not ask the AI to invent specifications, ingredients, certifications, dimensions, safety claims, or performance data.
3. Generate a First Draft
The tool can use visible details to prepare a draft. A useful draft may mention:
- visible color and shape;
- apparent style and design;
- packaging or included visible items;
- likely use context;
- overall visual presentation.
4. Verify Product Facts
Before publishing, compare the result with your source-of-truth product data. Check material, dimensions, weight, model number, ingredients, compatibility, certifications, warranty, safety information, price, and availability.
Remove any statement that cannot be confirmed.
5. Adapt the Draft to the Platform
Online Store
Use a clear title, short benefit statement, verified feature list, and accurate specifications.
Marketplace Listing
Follow the marketplace's title, keyword, prohibited-claim, and category rules.
Social Media
Use a shorter caption and avoid unsupported performance or health claims.
Alt Text
Describe the visual information that matters in the page context. Do not turn alt text into a keyword list or sales paragraph. The W3C alt text decision tree can help you decide what kind of alternative text a page needs.
6. Example Review Workflow
AI draft:
A premium red leather handbag with gold hardware, designed for professional women.
Human review:
- Confirm whether the material is genuine leather.
- Remove “premium” unless the store can support the claim.
- Replace “for professional women” if the product is not intentionally limited to that audience.
- Add verified dimensions, closure type, and strap information from the product database.
Revised copy:
A structured red handbag with gold-tone hardware, a top handle, and a removable shoulder strap. The main compartment closes with a front clasp. See the specifications section for verified dimensions and materials.
7. AI Output Is a Draft
Image-based generation can save writing time, but it does not replace verified product data or human review. The final description should be accurate, useful, and consistent with the product customers will receive.
